What free means here
Planet Epoch is free, and the base game will remain free: the full galaxy, colonisation, fleets, combat, diplomacy, trade, the 3D system view and the bridge. You are not renting a demo — the game is complete, and everyone fights in the same galaxy on the same terms.

No download is the point
Space strategy games traditionally demand a client, a launcher and a free evening. Planet Epoch deliberately doesn't: it's built for the browser so that a five-minute visit — queue a build, redirect a fleet, answer a threat — is a real turn. The galaxy keeps running while you're away, and email alerts warn you when someone moves on your systems.
Six races, six playstyles
Humans, Knossons, Feon-Tar, Vatari Cult, Sharne and Derulons each play by different rules — different ships, different economies, and in the Feon-Tar's case a different definition of empire. Read the race guides and pick your doctrine.
