Derulon Nesters are giant colonies that roam the stars searching for star systems to settle or lurk in. Nesters are also referred to as Star Homes, partly due to their enclosed internal power supply known as the Merk Stone, in short a small star. Merk stones are often recovered and kept safe on board Nesters until it is time to build other Star Homes. The Derulons use the energy produced by this stone as their main source of power. The stones were mined from their home world many centuries ago. The Home world is located in a system known as Der-Dolan, now the home to the Derulon Command Council. Each Nester carries a battery-class planetary-scanner array. The Derulons do not waste eggs on worlds the Nester has not sounded first; a Nester's scan log is read aloud at every Janta council before the clutch is committed.
